Post Monitor Your System Performance

Monitor Your System Performance
Make sure that your system runs safely and smoothly

Isn't that what 'Task Manager' is for?? Yes, but you can take it a step further to make sure your system is always running up to your standards. XP has included software that is a little more indepth when it comes to this process.

STEP 1: Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Performance
You should now be in the Performance monitor.

STEP 2: Once the program launches, you will see a graph begin to draw itself out (image above). Three different performance indicators will plotted:
Percentage Processor Usage
Number of Pages Accessed /Second
Average Disk Queue Length
NOTE: The color codes are indicated below the graph as well as the category names.

STEP 3: You can add different indicators by right clicking in the key box and selecting 'Add Counters'. You can then choose additional counters from a list. If you highlight a counter and click the 'Explain' button you'll be shown a dialog box that tells you how to understand the counter reading.

STEP 4: You can select log performance data over a period of time by clicking on 'Performance Logs' and 'Alerts' in the left pane. Right click in the right hand pane and choose 'New Log Settings' to be able to pick what you want the log to record and whether you want to schedule it or run it manually.
