HOW to FTP...MADE EASY!!
This tutorial is intended to HELP you understand the basics on setting up and using FTP(File Transfer Protocol) with screenshots for just about every motion. Items to be covered... * Network Settings for the Xbox (Avalaunch & EvolutionX) - DHCP Settings & Setup - Static IP Settings & Setup * How to FTP to your Xbox by using a router * How to FTP to your Xbox by using a crossover cable (Direct) * Setting up & using Flash FXP - Input the correct settings into the Site Manager - Connecting SECTION I Network Settings for the Xbox (Avalaunch) If you're using Avalaunch as a Dashboard, this section will show you how to navigate through the dashboard and access settings so they can be changed to fit your needs. Once your xbox loads the dashboard… Click Settings -> ![]() Click Network -> ![]() Highlight IP Settings -> Network Settings and Time Server Settings should be displayed on the right side of the screen ![]() *DHCP: If you need to enable DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol automatically assigns the xbox an IP address, therefore makes your job that much easier) just look to the right and see if it has already been enabled. This option can only be used if you are connecting to your PC by use of a router. If it has not been enabled, use your keypad to highlight where it says disabled and press the "A button" to enable it. This method is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED for beginners. Now back out, restart your xbox, and the settings will have taken effect. *STATIC: If you prefer to use a Static IP address you should disable DHCP in the xbox settings and input your desired address directly below it. If you are unsure what to make your Static IP address just use the same one that appeared as the DHCP address or you can make it 5 digits above what your PC's IP address is. For example: PC IP: 192.168.1.100 XBOX : 192.168.1.105 A Static IP will require other settings that can be found within your PC (Gateway, Subnet, Primary DNS, & Secondary DNS). Some people use the Static IP method regardless; whether it is an FTP setup via a router or by direct connection. NOTE: If you are using a direct connection to FTP into your xbox, it must be a Static IP address assigned to both your xbox and the LAN connection on your PC you’re connecting to. In addition, you must use a crossover cable. You can get that info by doing the following on your PC. Click Start -> Run -> Type the letters "cmd" without the quotation marks In simple terms, a black box will appear on your PC's screen. ![]() Without any spaces, type "ipconfig/all" (no quotations either) Hit enter and all of the info you need will appear below what you've just typed, write it down or do whatever you need to, just input the info required into your dashboard's settings. *Avalaunch FTP Settings: Just below the IP Settings in the Avalaunch Dash are the FTP Settings. Scroll down and highlight that option. ![]() Your settings should mirror the picture above. Use nonboost FTP Server: Disabled (being enable has caused ftp issues) FTP Server: Enabled FTP Port: 21 Max User: 2 (1 is an alternative) Show Space on Root: Disabled Filename Clipping: Enabled Allow Boostmode: Enabled Mirroring the above settings should optimize your speeds while using FTP Clients, especially Qwix 1.01. SECTION II Network Settings for the Xbox (EvolutionX) If you're using EvolutionX as a Dashboard, this section will show you how to navigate through the dashboard and access settings so they can be changed to fit your needs. Once your xbox loads the dashboard… Scroll down and select System Management -> ![]() System Settings -> ![]() Now you should be able to see the Network settings for EvolutionX. You will need to scroll down on the screen to view all options available. ![]() **Refer to: DHCP and STATIC for direction on what and how to fill in the settings for your needs. For the option that is different between Avalaunch and EvolutionX in this section: Setup Network ------- YES Once you have the settings you want input into the dashboard, scroll to the bottom of the screen, save, and restart the console for the settings to take effect. *EvolutionX FTP Settings: Scroll down the screen and look for the FTP section. (Can be found after BIOS and above Telnet) ![]() Make sure ENABLE has a YES next to it so that you will be able to FTP with this dashboard loaded. Once you have the settings you want input into the dashboard, scroll to the bottom of the screen, save, and restart the console for the settings to take effect. SECTION III Setting up Flash FXP **Whether you are using Flash FXP or another FTP Client of your preference; make sure it and all other programs have been added to your Firewall's exceptions list. Not doing so can make the difference in a successful connection between your xbox and PC and/or Laptop.** (thank you larrylje for the input) This section will guide you in setting up a site for your xbox within Flash FXP. Open Flash FXP -> Click Sites -> Site Manager -> The window below will appear on your screen: ![]() The information required here to set up your xbox as a site to FTP into: - Site Name: can be whatever you want it to be - IP Address: Can be found on the main screen of your dashboard. This skin you have will depict its exact location on that screen. 192.168.?.? - User Name: xbox (default) - Password: xbox (default) Once the minimum info has been input, Click apply and Connect and see if your hard work has paid off. If your attempt is successful, you should see the drives of the XBOX on one side of your screen and the directory window for your computer on the other.
From there you should be able to navigate through your xbox on one side and your PC on the other. Tips: * XBOX Remote File Management and ISO Creation Tool Recommendations - Avalaunch users should use Qwix - EvolutionX users should use Craxtion *Flash FXP is a great tool for FTPing and fast *Cute FTP is also a good and it's FREE *If you plan on transfering several games to your xbox from your PC or vice verse, I recommend you use an FTP Client like Cute FTP or Flash FXP. Good Luck!! |

Hello tEChniiQue
I was just reading your FTP (file transfer protocol) made easy for your Xbox, and i was wondering could this tut work also with the PS2 on my home wireless network, i have my main pc, which is the intial point for my wireless router, i also have two wireless linksys gaming adaptors for both my Xbox and my PS2, in my PS2 i have a HDD, and i use HDAdvance 3.0 to usually convert the games to the HDD, and then have had some changes to system ie new hard drive for PS2, adn i have a few bigs ISOs on my main pc, and WinHIIP is giving me real headaches, it tries to write the ISOs to teh crive that i hook up to my main pc, and then after 78% it faisl and i have to start all over again, it is getting me annoyed now, so if this idea and great tut of yours would work with the PS2 i would be in absolute heaven, excuse my flowery writing ha ha :-D

Hello Lord Sesshomaru
I will try that, thank you but i know also what i am like with these type of things, i rush in where angels fear to tread, and when it all goes wrong i feel let down, so i am going to make a checklist by that guide and have already downloaded all the items needed, and it will make things a lot easier if i could FTP instead of messing about, i know that you have to connect the PS2 HDD once to get everything sorted, but once that is all done and dusted, it should be plain sailing CORRECT, we shall see, right now as i am typing this, i am using HDAdvance 3.0 to convert my PS2 games to the HDD, and it is time consuming as i am sure you are aware, i will let you know how i get on with the procedure, of course as always TIME is of the essence. ta m8 :-D

I definitely wouldn't recommend removing Windows Hotfixes. I impulsively removed SP2 about a month ago, later I realized it was only one program that was affected (Nero Recode) by previous PC blunders on my behalf. I was so blinded by anger that I didn't stop to think. Long story short, I spent all night reinstalling XP, updating Windows, and getting all my programs back on there. Not worth it my friend.

Hello Lord Sesshomaru
I dont believe it, i was jsut typing my detailed answer to the post you replied to about deleting the hotfixes and my computer went erratic, i was listening to Itunes and typing away, and then it just stopped dead, i tried cntrl, alt, del but nothing, i waited ten or so minutes nothing no mouse movement nothing, i had to press reset button on PC, no power shortage or anything like that as my laptop is working okay in the background and i am also working on my other pc as well and they are both fine, it was just my MAIN PC. I will not delete the hotfixes then, and save time and trouble later, but for me they just look untidy and the list is as follows. Windows 2000 Hotfix KB842773 Windows 2000 Hotfix KB890046 Windows 2000 Hotfix KB893756 Windows 2000 Hotfix KB896358 Windows 2000 Hotfix KB896422 Windows 2000 Hotfix KB896423 Windows 2000 Hotfix KB896424 Windows 2000 Hotfix KB896688 The list goes on and on, there is a total of 29 hotfixes, and also they do not take up mem ory, so no worries than ks for reply dude ![]() Hello Lord Sesshomaru I dont believe it, i was jsut typing my detailed answer to the post you replied to about deleting the hotfixes and my computer went erratic, i was listening to Itunes and typing away, and then it just stopped dead, i tried cntrl, alt, del but nothing, i waited ten or so minutes nothing no mouse movement nothing, i had to press reset button on PC, no power shortage or anything like that as my laptop is working okay in the background and i am also working on my other pc as well and they are both fine, it was just my MAIN PC. Man, you seem to have a ton of issues SS. I had that same thing for awhile, but mine went away after I deleted my old partition and reinstalled a fresh XP. Honestly, I forgot you were running Windows 2000 Pro. Even so, uninstalling the hot fixes is never a good idea, most of them deal with Windows security issues.

Hi Lord Sesshomaru
Thanks for your reply, YES, i am sure you agree with me seeing that list, it is a tad untidy to see it, but i am sure that they are important updates and are needed, even if they are used for maybe in the background security and resource purposes, we all know that somethings have to depend on some fixes to be able to work properly, and as always, the learning curve is a great one, but although we learn it is good to have some errors come up to begin a new challenge (if you like ha ha ha) any how i appreciate your input :-D btw do you know if it is possible to have a different start up sound for Win 2000 ? instead of that C****Y Microsoft sound :-D
