*Nix Question

I'm just wondering if there are any ATi riendly distros of linux out there....towards the x800 series of video card.

I know most of them will have a default driver at least for the 9700-9800 series, but so far I've been having troubles with my x800 being recognized.
Not even a default ATi driver will work ost times...and other times I can't even get to an option.

So far I've only gotten Ubuntu 5.04 to work...but it's kinda limited as far as a distro is concerned. As of now I've tried Mandrake 10.1/Fedora Core 3/Fedora Core 4/Ubuntu 5.04.

Any info would help me out lots.

EDIT/

Here's a pic of the weirdness in SUSE with my card....sux eh?

...wtf? When I'm in my SUSE,that image looks like some weird acid trip.

Punqewe, I've had this problem with *nix and ATI cards for a while now. My problem is getting them to run in something other that 4 or 16 colors but can get that fixed by editing the config file for the video, but the slight weirdness like in your screenshot remains. I've read alot of support forums on it and I can't find much joy with getting then to run like they should.

I'm going to be going back to an Nvidia vid card soon anyways, and my machine with this ati x800 AIW will be made into a second game machine/PVR.

Off hand, have anyone had any troubles with *Nix not running on PCI express? Out of the box or with other configs?

My Debian install works well with my XFX Geforce 6800 GT card. Absolutley hates my x800 though. I let my wife have my x800 for her computer and kept the 6800 for mine. hehehehe I don't know how well it would work in SLI mode though.

Might not be in my budget anymore either....just got my disability check and for some reason they reduced my pay.
Weird thing is,I'm trying to goto school and get off this disability, but as soon as I inquired about all of the school stuff they reduced my money for the month. The irony is that if they don't pay for my schooling, now there's no way for me to get off the disability becuase of the reduction.

Seems to defeat the purpose, since they're supossed to help me get back into the workforce...and what they did goes against what they say that they do.

Catch22 in a way.
