Linux Wireless

Anyone know how to connect wireless in Ubuntu?

Ok, this may not be a Linux question completely, but I am using Ubuntu. I try to configure my wireless connection and I get this screen:

The name of my wireless connection (SSID) is "linksys." I know that the security is WEP 64 bit Hex and I know the key. But it doesn't connect. The wired connection works perfectly though.

edit***********
Well, after some more reading, I don't believe Ubuntu supports my NIC. I have a Linksys WRT54GS. I guess that is one downside so far that I see. The other one is no Adobe support.

I downloaded something called ndiswrapper and extracted it on my desktop. It's suppoed to be windows networking drivers for Linux. Anyone know how to install a driver in Linux?

I typed this command in the terminal:

sudo apt-get install ndiswrapper-common
Password:

and after I input my password, this happened:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Suggested packages:
ndiswrapper-source
The following NEW packages will be installed:
ndiswrapper-common
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 18.0kB of archives.
After unpacking 102kB of additional disk space will be used.
Get:1 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com feisty/main ndiswrapper-common 1.38-1ubuntu1 [18.0kB]
Fetched 18.0kB in 0s (37.6kB/s)
Selecting previously deselected package ndiswrapper-common.
(Reading database ... 104906 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking ndiswrapper-common (from .../ndiswrapper-common_1.38-1ubuntu1_all.deb) ...
Setting up ndiswrapper-common (1.38-1ubuntu1) ...

From looking at the code that transpired, it looks like Ubuntu fetched a version of ndiswrapper and installed it for me from http://us.archive.ubuntu.com. Well, I still can't get wireless to work. Based on the above code, was version 1.38 installed? Because I downloaded 1.46 and it is on my desktop. Anyone know how to have it install 1.46?

YAHOOOOOO!!!!!!

I did it!!! I'm on wireless!!!! I love Linux. It's so much fun to learn!!!

I installed a package called bcm43xx_compwiz18.1-all.deb. It worked perfectly. If anyone wants it, I'll up it to rapidshare. I can sleep well tonight!

ROFL :-P

Hmm, I would assume it require the same procedures as doing any dual boot OS. Install Linux first, then create a second partition, then install Windows XP.

Sorry theridges, I've never done that. I did install beryl this morning before work though (after I finished drooling :-P ). I had to work out some bugs with my nVidia card, but I got it working. Not sure how stable it is yet. Had a couple of glitches, but it's pretty awesome to say the least. The cube is awesome. Each side is an individual work space. Just brilliant. I've always been a Windoze person and was never really exposed to this kind of innovation.

@kam
Thinking more about that dual OS thing. Wouldn't you have to create the partitions first, and then install each OS in its respective one? When I installed Linux, it gave me the option of installing it on a partition. I happened to use the entire 80GB drive. If I were to have only used half, could I have inserted my Windows Install CD and installed Windows on the remaining space of the HDD? I keep thinking that a program like Paragon HDD Manager would be needed first to create 2 NTFS partitions beforehand.

From what I have read people say you need to install XP first then linux.

Edit : I am work on a tutorial for dual boot but it will be for Vista and Linux (when Vist is installed first) when i have done that I will try and do one for XP if you want.

Vista one should be up by to night (after I have walked the dog)

I would be interested in the XP tutorial. My wife's old PC has a 300GB primary HDD with XP Pro. I can always use Partition Magic to create a 100GB partition and then install Linux on that one. Looking forward to the tut!

When you have dual OS's, can you switch between them on the fly? Or when you reboot, do you have the option to select which to boot from?
