Do you use Linux Distros?

I'm curious as to who here uses a Linux distro. It doesn't matter if it's your primary OS or not, but if you use one, have used one, or plan on using one in the future please reply to this with what distro in particular.

Thread purpose is part conversdation and part research. The new XS will have a building Linux section, especially in guides and downloads. So, I'd like to know what distros are being used by our members.

I use:
Ubuntu 7.04/7.10
Mandriva One 2008 (Gnome & KDE version)

I've touched others, but both of those own two of the 5 computers on my network. A lot of the guides that I'm writing here and there along with tips and tricks were done with those two distros in mind.

I used to follow the old red hats till they switched to fedora and I used that till about core 6 I think. I also played with suse for awhile to test it out for my brother...then they got taken over by novell and it kinda lost my interest a bit. Although the features are pretty good still....which is good.

Now I'm sticking with ubuntu mainly for the support and the frequent updates....very nice to finally have proper video support for a distro.

I've used a couple in the past, ubuntu for a little while (not sure which version, but found it hard going as it didn't detect some of my hardware) and have used knoppix live dvd a few times.

I plan on re-visiting linux distros soon-ish as I really hate winblows sometimes.. just need the time to do it now and a bit of a read-up to see if I need to get drivers for my GPX card or anything and to see if there are some progs that are similar for linux as I use for windows, if not then I'll have to have a dual boot system or keep the OS's on different HDDs and just boot into the relevant HDD when I want to... the last option is probably the best with my setup, my mobo lets me "quick choose" a different HDD to boot from instead of having to change the bios

ubuntu has an app called envy that searches for a stable video driver for you and installs it now. Very easy compared to compiling it all yourself.

Does it work with the 8800GTX, cause last time, I had to do this very long procedure to get the video card driver installed and it didn't work out to well . So I just stuck to the basic video driver they had.

Well I think envy checks your hardware and then grabs the latest stable driver for you....or if you choose a manual install it'll give you a few choices for drivers.

It's pretty straight forward in the use too....just select you type of driver and it does it all for you.
