I did some research and it seems that no one had successfully install Ubuntu 7.10 on Toshiba Satellite A65 S126. I feel sorry for that. But you can try another Linux flavor for the mean time. Try Linux Mepis

I am sorry to be getting to this late, been a little busy lately. I believe you have two options here. One, install Ubuntu 7.04 and then upgrade within Synaptic to 7.10 or...

When you get to the boot menu in 7.10, press the F6 option. Then type in the following:
Quote:
noapic nolapic
Then try booting like normal for the install. The second option should work for you.

I imagine kubuntu is just ubuntu with the KDE desktop as standard. So it would most likely install the same

I've never used kubuntu but if you're not familiar with the KDE desktop environment, there is no real benefit in switching from Gnome. Just starting out with Linux, I would recommend using Ubuntu w/Gnome. Then, if you want to tryout the KDE desktop you can install it.

The problem you are having with the install does not mean using Ubuntu is a flawed idea...if the suggestion I gave you 'noapic nolapic' works; then it's related to the system's hardware. Mainly, related to one with multiprocessors.

Did you attempt the advice I gave before?

just for get about ubuntu and go and download OpenSUSE 10.3

it is supported by Novell, which means, its gonnna be ROCK SOLID.

** and it is one of the best OS's you can install to VMWare, both Gnome and the Unix command prompt look,

and if you ever want to do Unix, i would suggest FreeBSD 6.3

(P.S. Kubuntu is gay too, we have used it in class and i still prefer OpenSUSE

by a longshot.) have fun either way
