linux ubuntu bash

hello
i installed linux ubuntu and i installed rpm package with the command "sudo apt-get install rpm" thats ok it installed .... but i dont have "bash" application.
when i type "rpm --query bash" the return is
" rpm: to install rpm package on debian system, use alien. see REA DME.debian.
error:cannot open package index using db3 - no such file or directory (2)
error; cannot open package database in /var/lib/rpm
package bash is not installed"

this leads me to think that bash isnt installed
could anyone help me to install bash package
