I am having problems getting Video clips to play from websites that I go to on the INTERNET.
I am running Vista which comes with IE7 and Windows Media Player 11 I have no idea what to do to get these video clips to work from the webpage. I have Windows Media player associated with AVI files and Mpeg files. When I click on the video to play it, all I get is a (This page can not be displayed error) I can right click on the video and download it then play it in windows media player but it will not automatically play it when I double click on the movie link like it does with previous OS versions and IE versions. Please respond if you have a solution or tips to maybe get it working. I do not want to hear get rid of IE7 and Vista. That will not solve the problem. So if anyone has some ideas shoot them my way. Thanks. |

I have the correct codecs installed already. As I said before I can right click and (Save Target As) download the Video Clip then play it off my computer. So playing the video is not the issue.
The issue is clicking on the link to play the file stright from the website itself. When I clcik on the link it will redirect but instead of Windows media player coming up I get an IE page that says (Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage) |

can you change the actions to what happens when you click a media link in your browser? If you can,try redirecting it to WMP 11.

Where would that be located?

I've never used IE7...but I imgine somewhere in options or preferences there should be a section.
IE6 has a section in Tools/Internet Options/Advanced where you can set it to open media in a webpage ...so I imagine if you unclick this so that it doesn't...it might ask you where/what you wanna open it with. ....I am not opening IE6 ever again...so that's just a one time thing for you.

I have read that WM11 has some streaming video issues during beta days. I have checked MSDN and MS help services along with a google search. I have yet to install MP11 and IE7 combo but will try it in VMware at home but alas I dont have Windows as a workstation ATM just fedora and Mac. Will be interesting to try it out though.
Does it work in Opera/Firefox? |

I use WMP11 and IE7 in windows XP with no trouble.
It is only in vista that i am having this problem with. Probably some bug in the Vista system maybe. I have the UAC disabled in Vista so i do not think it is a security issue. Im still looking threw the options in IE7 see if I can figure it out. But at this point im thinking it has to do with a setting for Vista. |

I got it to work. IE7 must not have had anything set as a default setting with the Video Clip's.
When I went to the setting it was set to use the default player. But there also was a setting that lets you choose a windows player(Example: WMP) or a non-windows player (Example: Nero Showtime) So I set it to open with WMP and it works now. So for those who might run into this problem do the below steps in IE7. TOOLS/Internet Options/Programs Now at the bottom of that window there is an option to set up Internet programs. SO click on (SET PROGRAMS) Then click on the option to (Set program access and computer defaults) |
