I recently installed Vista and just wanted share. First of all my there is apparently no driver available to operate my Dell All-in-One Photo 924 printer scanner. MS included several models that are close, but not my 924, how crappy is that? When I called Dell the guy spent 20 minutes confirming what I had told him. He said he imagined they would have a driver by March, maybe…….
Next I’ve got a Maxtor Ultra ATA PCI Controller so I can use all my older IDE HD’s for additional storage. The generic driver Vista used doesn’t work, so I might have to buy a new SATA HD. I’m getting a message under device properties that reads for both of these devises. This device cannot start. (Code 10) Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available. I’m trying my hardest to justify continuing with Vista. I do like it, even though I think it has been overrated, and DVD Decrypter can’t close correctly, can’t save settings. The side bar is all right, the skins rock, and remind me of SUSE. They’ve done away with the up a folder tab in Windows Explorer which took me a day or two to get used to. My avis thumbnails show the first visible frame in explorer, which is an improvement over XP. From what I can tell the networking options have improved tremendously. I can view all sorts of folders and files on network computers that I couldn’t before. I can connect to the internet and Xbox simultaneously without constantly enabling and disabling my LAN, and Wireless adapter. Here’s a screenshot. http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/342/vistafm9.jpg Detailed system info updated http://img506.imageshack.us/img506/7500/vistasils0.jpg

I won't even be thinking of upgrading until Vista's been out for about 6 months or so. That way some of the kinks, drive issues, personal backup issues and overall general software compatibility can be worked out to some degree. It doesn't like my printer (lexmark x1270) either. I have Vista installed on a small partition just so I can keep up with how it works and such and it sees my printer, even knows what brand and model it is. It asks me to insert the software CD that came with my printer and it acts as if its installing the drivers, sits at the installing drivers screen for about 20 minutes. Tells me that it's installed. I go look in the printers and fax area, and nothing. But, I go look on Lexmarks website, and it says that the Vista drivers are coming in February. Man am I glad it's February already. (Hints of sarcasm there)
Anyway, I figure there are lots of stuff just like this, so I think it would be best to wait before allowing Vista to be a default OS on any machine of mine, if at all.

Vista is at best WAY to young. We just bought a new PC for my father-in-law with Vista on it. I tried installing a new Dynamex wireless adapter and found that the manufacterer has not upgraded their driver software for Vista compatibility. I have found out that MANY company have not yet upgaded their software or firmware and are slow to do so. I like the general look of Vista but I believe it will be some time before I "upgrade" (and I use the term losely) from XP, give em time to work out the kinks and get all the companies on the same page.

Something else that bugs is, in Windows Explorer is that there is no edit tab so that means no edit/"select all" option. Hopefully there is a way to restore or show the menu bar. For now I guess I will select all with my mouse, later.......
I just noticed that DVD Decrypter reading a DVD at over 12.5 X. It ripped a 3.48 gb DVD in 5 min. and 18 secounds. Still when you go to close the aplications it reads "Failed to set data for". 12.5 X is faster than I ever remember seeing in XP. I guess next I'll see how DVDshrink likes Vista, even though this DVD doesn't need shrinking. AutoGK and it's different apps worked create the other day, so no big problems so far with DVD back-up and conversion.
