On my home network w/ (dlink router)... ive notice that transferring from an XP machine to another XP machine.. its almost instant depending on what the size of files is im transferring across... but as soon as i try to transfer from XP to my vista... the timer comes up and it can take a few minutes to alot of minutes... whats weird is when i transfer from the vista back down to the xp this problem doesnt exists... so it seems like there is some sort of security measure or program on Vista thats slowing this down... Any tips of this issue.. gladly appreciated

i also facing the same problem with u..
i think vista had so high security so that even when u want to transfer file from anywhere, it will become slower.. that's maybe because of it's security function :coolp: |

This might help u....
Turn off Remote Differential Compression Remote Differential Compression measures the changes in files over a network to transfer them with minimal bandwidth rather than transferring an entire file that has previously been moved. By constantly checking for file changes, this service can hinder system performance. To disable this service:

Anything else that might speed it up? I also noticed that sometimes other computers on the network take forever to show up in the NETWORK section.

Most likely it's a setting/driver issue on the Vista end, running XP on all your computers would probably resolve the issue. The key is to see if the it's a general issue with Vista, or something specific to your make and model router. Here's a general Vista networking guide:

I have yet to notice any type of lagging on my network from my Vista machine. But I did have a problem with Kaspersky. It set up a network filter on my Local Connection that threw me for a loop. It filtered out all the incoming connections from all my XP machines. I had t de-select it to see my XP machines on Vista.
Check your anti virus and see if it may be scanning all connections made to your network. That may slow it down. |
