A friend of mine forgot her password on Vista, and can't get on her laptop now. Any of you know how to get in without the password so she doesn't have to reformat?

If it was XP I'd be able to get in, but I dunno anything about vista.

Well, there are ways...

Boot into safe mode, login as administrator (which by default have no password), then go to user control panel and remove her password on her account. Boot back into normal mode, and done!

or...

Download this, and create a boot cd, then do a direct regedit, to remove the password.

If it's still NT based,you should be able to use any live OS cd and then search for the SAM file. Then if you can email it to yourself or burn it to disk....all you need is a machine running something like Loftcrack and it should crack the passwords held on the SAM file in no time.



5 minute job usually.
