FDisk Problems

I tried installing windows XP into my moms computer that had ME and i guess the computer wasnt good enough and a bunch of the files failed to install. So i decided i would put me back on it. I put in the windows ME disks back in and it tells me that i need to run FDisk (Which i normally have to do anytime i need to install ME again so i didnt think anything of it). I typed in FDisk to get into the Utility then it gives me a message saying " No Fixed Disks Present"

Anybody know whats going on? I know the hard drive isnt dead becaue if i go into the BIOS menu it detects the hard drive

I know that I get errors on a XP install every now and then. Did you try more than once to install XP? Sometimes it takes me a couple tries to get it without a failed file.

Hi

!!!! without meaning to fault you in anyway but Have you checked the cables, i have had similar things/errors happen to me before, and it is sometimes very frustrating, but DO check the H.D.D cables and so on, and then try a full installation of win XP, if that is the O.S of choice

Have you tried to delete the partition that was there first ans then do a fresh full format of it. Or did you just try to make the partition on the exsisting format that was there first hand.

select the option to delete the partition, then it will ask you if you want to create a whole new one. That's when you do the format....if I remember.

Yeah that's correct. For some reason that option never seems to work right for me when I reinstall, it always gives me errors when deleting the current partition. I keep a copy of Partition Magic around and format my drive that way, then boot XP off disc and reinstall. Doing it that way, it's imperative to know you have a working XP install disc.

It's a program for creating, deleting, formatting, partitions on a Windows PC. It's a lot more powerful than the Windows formatter. You need to be able to boot into Windows to use it though. It's a pay application. Your best bet is to try formatting it through the Windows installer to begin with.
