Question Copying PS2 Games.

Ok, I read somewhere online that a PS2 game is just an ISO on a DVD-R...

I also read that if I had DVD Decrypter, I could simply use it's ISO decryptor, to decrypt that DVD-R, and then burn it using Nero, or any other dvd burning software, and write that ISO image to a DVD-R, and that it would work on the PS2 in question...

So, here's a brief summary of my results:
1.Decrypts Guitar Hero 2 Successfully With DVD Decrpter (Just for reference, I have the latest version)
2. Writes ISO Image to a blank DVD-R with Nero 8. (also latest version)
3. Inserts Copied DVD-R into PS2... PS2 responds with "Please Insert A Playstation 2 Disc."
4. Bangs head on wall.

Any suggestions?

do you have a modchip? or swap magic discs and a case mod? - if you don't have either of those then a backup disc won't work anyway.

Uhm... As far as I know I have no mods. It's a second hand PS2 sadly =(

What mod do I need?

And while your here, lol, I'm trying TinyXp, since I read your post on it...

I'm just having trouble making a boot disc for it =(

Any ideas?

The easiest way is getting a modchip. With the modchip you can play freely. If you decide to get Swap Magic, you will get annoyed sooner or later. Swap Magic can not play Dual Layer disc, have issues with some games, because their TOC are larger than the Swap Magic disc. Also swapping each time you want to play will drive anyone crazy sooner or later.

Yep, as kam said above about the difference between modchips and swap magic.. modchip is the way to go, I know through experience that you get annoyed with swapping discs, lol

as for tinyxp, it's simply a matter of burning the image to disc, in my opinion it's better to burn at around half the max rated speed for best results.

Hey, good news, I figured out why I wasn't getting an ISO image to burn, TinyXP came with 4 different batch files, for 4 seperate set up options, The way to go for me was Option1. So, I double clicked it, cmd opened, started copying the files, saved them as an ISO to C:\, and Voila! There was my ISO... I burned, and installed... And let me tell you, it makes a difference. It only takes about 400mb of hd space, and is only using 40mb of ram to run... The speed of my computer is incredibly faster. And it even runs high graphic games better. (I believe it's because theres more ram to dedicate to processing and graphics now)

So, to anyone wanting to improve their computer... I recommend TinyXp...

Thanks go to Paddymail for the original post that got me to seek out TinyXp, and to kambodianboi,
for the PS2 game burning tips...

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

Darlyle.

I'm using it on a core2duo system that I built myself... even with loads of processes and apps running it only gets to about 480MB
