Exclamation Uh Oh.... =(

Hey guys, I got some kinda weird virus =(

I ran, KasperSky, AVG, and, Adware SE Plus, Spybot Search And Destroy, and AVG Spyware Remover... But, I can't find anything... When I boot up it's slow as hell... Any program I run takes forever to load, and IE7 which I don't even use... Keeps opening up going to weird movie and search engine sites...

I'm debating whether or not I should reformat this weekend, unless somone has a Anti-Virus they wanna suggest, but just so you know, I refuse to use Nortons Or McAfee..

Would appreciate the help...

Darlyle.

Well the first things I would do is post a HJT log here and let some more "weathered" verterans take a look at that to see what might be running that is slowing you down. Next you could try a registry cleaner, could help with the speed. Finally I would suggest NOD32, its a great Anti virus that found something that avg didn't pick up for me before.

Any questions fire away, I'm sure someone can answer them.

Those type of spyware/worms wont show on HJT. Because they have replaced a system file, and instead of finding that file, its better off doing a system repair install.

How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install

That worm is called WRM.STANG.E2 :P

In all honesty I would post a log and heed kam's advice, can't hurt anything going both routes!

Yeah

Doing a repair install, does not delete your files. What it does, its reinstall windows XP, and leave all your application, and files still there. I always recommend people to do that to backup what they have, then do a fresh install after.

But if you reinstall XP without formatting, can't that leave traces of malware in the System Volume Information folder?

Turned out it was some kinda worm >_<

Nod32 found it for me, and just to be safe I ran regseeker and got my registry nice and clean... Running much faster and smoother, as I should be... Appreciate all the advice guys... Dunno where I'd be without you, lol...

I try not to do repairs...since everytime I have ever done it that way half my apps get "broken" and I end up having to uninstall and re install them anyways.
