Okay, I have full XP home edition running on this computer also known as the 'old computer'.
Anyway, I have 128mb of RAM, but with two 128mb sticks in it with 4mb of Video memory... since its on board. And i'm stuck with 800x600 res. As soon as I set it to 1024x768 or 1157x851 or something it goes crazy... the screen shakes and just plain simple doesn't work. It has the time counter to set it back to the way it was before it had changed. So it goes back to normal... Anyone wanting to give me a little bit of advice? I might have some dodgey old 32/64mb video cards... just to take some pressure off the computer. If I don't what else should I do? Thanks |

Video resolution is a 2 device thing. Its based on video card (in your case onboard) and the monitor. Another thing that can come into play is the video driver. Make sure you have the latest one. Most likely it will be an Intel or SiS.
If you have a CRT, those can get some high resolution, but cost of visual display (unreadable). If its TFT "Flat", then you are limited to what the TFT is set to. Alot of cases, they are 1280x??? lol. Now video card, I cant really give you a solid answer for this, since its "old", but most likely 16 bit and 800x600 might be its max, im not sure... Just check around for some drivers.
