Thumbs down Firewall problems

Just recently i changed my anti-virus from norton to Sympatico security manager and im getting NAT reachability problems when i use azureus and limewire. When i start azureus it says that it is firewalled, same goes with limewire. On the settings for my firewall i have excluded these programs from being blocked, i have also put the TCP port onto the firewall exceptions, but i still get the same problem. Any suggestions?

Did you forward the ports for both programs in your modem/router? Both those programs need to be forwarded for UDP and TCP ports to work correctly. Make sure the same ports for UDP and TCP are forwarded in your software firewall and your modem/router. You can try disabling your software firewall and test the programs to see if that's the source of the problem. If not, then it's probably your modem/router blocking the appropriate ports.

I agree with Steimy, any P2P program is highly suspect. Limewire uses Gnutella network which has ongoing legisltation with the MPAA. Most all P2P programs use the same couple networks, all of which are being watched. Public trackers aren't much better, many of them are being monitored closely by anti-piracy groups as well. For torrents, private trackers are the only secure means of downloading. At least use PeerGuardian2 if you are going to download from P2P or public trackers. PG2 is an IP blocker that blocks people/organizations known to monitor people's downloads.

tnx

Alright, i found out that azureus is blocked by my router because i turned off my firewall and such and it still said it was firewalled. I also found out that I have to go to a specific website to configure my modem settings, but i'm clueless what it is, do you have an idea where i can find it?

If you mean your router/modem configuration page, go to start-->run and type "cmd" without the quotes. Then type "ipconfig /all" minus the quotes. Whatever the IP address is for default gateway, type into IE or FireFox and it should take you to the router configuration page. If it requires a password for login, refer to the owners manual or manufacturer's website for the default password.
