Hi again, another problem for you guys.
On startup my logon screen is blocky and all different colours, and i have a black box in the top right corner. When I login (when I can after numerous reboots) the top half of my screen seems to just mess up entirely and keeps windows that have opened up there but I cant click on them. Also when I take screenshots of it and open them in paint, there is nothing wrong with the screenshot. My question is, WTF! Regards |

Have you tried hooking up another monitor? At least that way you can determine if it's something related to your monitor or more serious hardware or software issues.
If that doesn't work, you may want to try a Windows Repair installation or system restore. Here's a repair guide for XP: Windows XP Professional (Pro) Repair Guide Here's a restore guide for XP: Windows XP System Restore Guide If you have system restore enabled, I recommend trying that first. If that doesn't work, then try the xp repair option. Neither of these methods will affect data currently stored on your HDD.

Hmm sounds like it might be a driver issue with the 8800GTS. I would uninstall the current driver in safe mode, download the latest driver from here: GeForce Release 175
Then install the current driver in safe mode. If you can't get through Windows long enough to download the latest driver for the 8800GTS on your main rig, download it on another PC and save the 8800GTS driver to a flash drive or burn it to CD and install in on your main rig in safe mode. I have a Radeon HD3870, and I get all kinds of issues when updating drivers if I don't uninstall the current driver before updating the new one. I think you may have a similar issue.

You may want to try this. In safe mode, since you can access it better.
Download the drivers you may need, nforce (if you have a nvidia motherboard), latest nvidia video driver. Uninstall the nvidia drivers, reboot into regular windows (not safe mode). See if there is any problems. If there is, then its not the drivers. If there is no problems, then install the nvidia drivers you downloaded. Reboot and see if the problem comes back or not. I highly doubt its the video creating artifacts while its stock. (It is stock right? not oc'ed) If it is OC'ed, undo it and restart.
