microsoft update center

So i reformat my PC, i did a windows updates and when i click downloads the percent was going up till about 20%. Been waiting till updates over it doesn't show anywhere that i need new updates!!! It's not only with this computer too. I "updated" windows SP3 on my other PC and it hasn't even started downloading it yet! I try to do it manually but it doesn't work! Are there something wrong with the microsoft download center lately?

EDIT: it's because i didn't install the stupid microsoft advantage genuine. K now it shows what i can update. SHOULD I UPDATE SP3 or not? i have sp2 right now. I dont' see any review on sp3 except the stupid beta ones. Thanks!

Well, I have SP3, there really isn't a difference. Some people say it makes their computers faster. The only reason I got it was to stay up to date with security updates. People find more and more ways to get into your computer everyday.

Up to you really. SP3 contains all the security updates released for SP2 and a couple new features to the OS. I personally like it, it seems better at installing new hardware on the fly, more built-in driver support, has better automated wireless detection, and more security patches. That said if your lappy is AMD, make sure you are aware of the reboot loop for AMD CPU's and SP3.

I think they have a fix for it:

Quote:

The issue with the rebooting after installing on AMD based systems is OEM deploys their images from an Intel platform to the AMD based system too. The culprit file is "intelppm.sys" it's a file used for intel systems.

If you installed it and can get into safemode, then go
to HKEY_Local_Machine>system>Current Control Set>Services
Find intelppm and change the value from a 1 to a 4.

If you have not install SP3 yet on your AMD based system do that registry change first to prevent the issue.
If you are really concerned go with SP2. There aren't a lot of changes to SP3, few the average PC user would notice.

ok so i did SP3 on my other PC without the restarting problem thing. I thought it was suppose to be faster.... but instead it's actullying eating about 20mb of ram. Anywho my pain problem is software software software. I was looking at itunes and it says vista or xp sp2. Is this mean that SP3 won't work on it? what about other programs would they work fine with sp3?

The only software issues I encountered with SP3 were StyleXP. That doesn't work with SP3 for now, other that Photoshop, Nero, ImgBurn, FireFox, and the usual suspects seem okay to me. Alot of it will probably depend on your chipset drivers and such.
