No, the dvd drive isn't linked to the mobo as far as I know. The drive key is the only thing that matters as far as flashing the 360 goes. I was asking if boots up at all. If you want help, it's best to answer questions when asked. It's impossible to draw any conclusions given the limited amount of info you've provided.

In theory, you can flash a drive then place it in any xbox 360. So meaning you can buy pre-flashed xbox 360 DVD drive. Thus there is no solid proof that it will work, probably Sadalius might have some info on it. But it is true, that there is a Driver ID for the DVD drive. Not really sure how all of that fall in together.

Yeah lemme correct myself. I did a bit of reading, the DVD drive is not married to the mobo per se, but you need to get the drive key from the original DVD-ROM drive that came with the 360, simply swapping drives will not work. You'd need to get the drive key from the original drive that came with the 360 you have and replace the drive key on the newer DVD-ROM drive with the original one. In short, swapping the DVD-ROM drive from your friend's 360 with the drive from the original 360 won't work. If you still have the original DVD-ROM from your 360, you can dump the firmware, get the firmware key with maximus toolbox 3.0, dump the original firmware from your current drive, and replace the drive key from the new one with the original, and flash the current drive, that would allow it to work with your current setup, provided the drive and the 360 are still functional.

Yeah that sucks man, my 360 died after only 5 months, so I know how aggravating losing one can be.
