It seems as though they may not have included it in this update. I've been reading reports of people with both hitachi's a nd sammies being able to use their backups both offline and online. Still a little early to tell though, there might be a "switch" that has yet to be thrown or something to that nature. Me thinks I will wait a little longer before installing the update.

I heard that the update is expected to stop certain current games from working online and a boat load of those to come. But that could be rumorville as best I can tell. I'm so happy that online play does not appeal to me. I wish it did but, it's easy to be seen that, that factor taken away from me and my console makes life less stressful there, lol.

Well, what the rumor mill was grinding out was that the update was supposed to add some code to where it could detect if you were playing a backup. Not detect the firmware, but be able to tell if the disk was original or not through the use of disk-jitter. Then when you put the backup in, you were to be greeted with "The disk is dirty or damaged" routine from boot up. But I have talked to folks with both hitachi's and samsungs with firmwares ranging from samsung xtreme 2.2, hitachi 78 version 1.6, hitachi 2.2 stealth and no one has had any problems, at least not yet. I'm hoping that there won't be any problems.

Textbook posted over at 360mods.net
The Xbox Live Spring 2007 Update was released just minutes ago as promised. After many reports from owners of many different drives and firmware versions, the update is safe. The update has been tested many times on different drive brands and versions, and backups are working both offline and online at this time. No matter what drive you have or what firmware you have, you can download the latest Xbox Live update and still play your backups just fine.

It could be one of those 2 part firmware, where they would need to update the firmware to a certain stage then, release a second firmware, using the last firmware code. Because firmware can only be a certain size, and when its to big, they break it down to 2 or more phases. But overall, for now, we know it works

well so far so good with the Xtreme 5.2 as well. But i really think if it happens they will wait until next week with the Halo 3 Beta. I am interested to see how many people with back up copies of Crackdown are going to be brave enough to try the Halo 3 Beta online. That is when i think you will start seeing some problems. Then i will just unplug my ethernet and say bye-bye to XBL until they find a way around it.
