Game developers debate Xbox achievements - XTREME-SOURCE

Love them or hate them, those Xbox 360 achievements have become a staple of the system. The little blips of joy are so annoying and addicting for some that we're shocked the PS3 and/or Wii didn't implement them. There's an interesting thread going on over at the International Game Developers Association forums started by Raphael Van Lierop (Relic, 3D Realms) where he believes the achievements have taken gamers off course.

I would have to agree with hime on that one. I like the things within a game that you can unlock and the achievements really make no sense to me. Aren't the unloackable contents of the game enough? plus i know people who play certain game modes with friends and "glitch" so to speak just to get them. Like playing team sharpshooter and letting each player get the most kills for a winning team, and so on. So i think that they need to go, they take away from the real aspects of a game.

In the end, the acheivements are just about MS credits, trading them for MS downloadable content and arcade games is the main purpose, if you don't have the points, maybe you'll shell out the dinero for it. I don't care strongly for them one way or another, but to say they redefine the way games are played... meh... matter of interpretation I guess.

well you know i love to cheat my achivments lol unlike ptu

ms have just taken the fun out of it no saves no cheats no action replay

hell people cant even see my points anymore as im banned from live

but when playing wii i do miss them but who cares really they dont do anything!!!!! and yes we all know your score ptu lol you love them

I hate them they have trun me in to a achivment monster. Each it a play a game I have to get some ponits or I see no point in playing it. We still have the PS2 setup and my wife plays it but I wont as you dont get points.

Achivment have killed my gaming life, but i still have more than yo all HA HA HA

I only have like 560 points, then again i never cheat to get them. Like i mentoned people do on Rainbow Six online.
