Can anyone please elp?

Hi guys,

Been a membe for ages, but first post....

I have an old XBOX360 drive that is wrecked, no longer reads. I bought a new drive (hitachi 0047) from ebay, can i just put this into the 'box to play games? or do i have to get the KEY from the old drive?

If so, how do I do it - are there any tutorials available please?

Can i just get the info from the hitachi drive, and reflash with ixtreme?

Hope you can help.

Ta!!!

You will need to grab the DVD Drive hardware id or something; Im not 100% sure, but Sadalius is one person that can really help you on this.

Read over this and see if it helps. From the way it reads it may:
"11/12/07 DVD Drive disassembly procedures documented. These will be useful if you want to disassemble your drive to clean a laser or swap out the PCB into a new drive to retain the key."

Yeah you need the drive key from the original DVD-ROM or it won't load any games at all. If the old drive is dead, not much you can do I'm afraid. The drive key is married to the motherboard so to speak. So if you put in a new DVD-ROM with a different key than the motherboard reads, you will get boot errors. You need to attach the old 360 drive to the PC via a SATA connector, dump the drive key and firmware using the dump commands for your model DVD-ROM drive. Then you need to dump the firmware from the new drive by attaching the new drive to a SATA connector on your PC and using the dump command for that model DVD drive, use an app like Maximus Firmware Toolbox, open up the the dump of the old firmware, and copy and paste the drive key from there into the firmware for the new one. Then you can flash the new drive with the firmware of your choice containing the drive key from the old DVD-ROM. It's a little more involved than that, I simply provided an overview of the process. The first thing to do is find out what model DVD-ROM drives you have.

Xbox 360 DVD Drive Comparison How to determine which version DVD drive you have in your Xbox 360, Samsung, Hitachi, Benq

From there, it's a matter of figuring out the dump procedures and command for the different model drives, here's a FAQ with information on various drive dumping and flashing procedures.
