I went ahead and splurged on a new blue 360 controller and rechargeable battery pack. The blue matches my case. If anyone knows for sure what the deal with replacing the standard AA alkaline battery packs is, please post. That information is still very useful to someone else in the same predicament.

I double checked my AA controller battery packs, they are definitely powered by AA alkaline batteries. I couldn't find any replacement AA battery backs on eBay, just rechargeable. There may have been some available, I didn't search the bowels of eBay.

Well, i could not find where you could buy them. But if you really need one i have three of them. Two white and one black. I have rechargeable batteries and the quick charger kit. So i always have one in use and one charging so i always have a fresh one ready, so i never use the AA packs that came with them.
