Hey Microsoft... Go **** Yourself

Well it's that time of Year. Easter? Nope, guess again. Spring? Nope, keep trying. Presidential elections? Nope. Xbox 360 dies? Yep, you got it.

It's been 2.5 years and $1,000,000,000 in replacements and Microsoft still does not use a reliable PVC to prevent the Red Ring of Death. All it would take is a better quality motherboard and cooling and the problem could be easily eliminated. I hear the New 360 with all those fixes is in the works, it will be released alongside Windows XP SP3.

Sure I could try to send it to someone who is qualified to perform an X-Clamp replacement. What the **** is the point? Pay shipping on my 360 just have it die again in a month. No thanks. Fortunately it's still under warranty. Thanks to some good advice, I got a two year in-store warranty on my 360 both times. This is my second RRoD. I am going to see if there's any chance I can exchange it for a PS3. I don't even care about backups. What is the point of backing up my games if the system dies in 3 months? I want a next-gen system that works, not a space heater. The Wii sucks harder than Richard Simmons in an airport urinal. Plus I don't want my HDTV destroyed by a system incapable of outputting in HD. So I will attempt to get a PS3. If I'm stuck with another 360, well check this section in 3-6 months.

Wow LS, that was just bad luck. Im on my second 360, and I hope it dont die. It is an elite, and I would be piss if it dies, not that I play it alot. But money value wise. Its like throwing money away. Anyways, if you are able to a PS3, im sure you will be set. Not all electronics are perfect, there are times PS3, Wii, 360 will have problems, but first time I will let it go, 2nd time, I get paranoid, 3rd time is the final cut for that product.

Yeah the only prob with the PS3 is lack of games, but I'm sure I can find something to tie me over. GTA IV comes out in a couple weeks, then that problem will be solved.

I may be unable to exchange it for a PS3, but I'm going try. Hopefully if I tell the store I'm willing to pay the price difference they will permit the exchange. I don't care about backups anymore, I just want a system that works. Plus having a blu-ray player built-in will be nice, watching the latest movies in true HD is appealing. I also will enjoy the PSX backwards compatibility, games like Final Fantasy VIII just don't emulate that well.

I have several original PSX RPG's that I may play through at some point. The opportunity to play with Linux is appealing, and no matter how limited the HD playback is, it will be better than the original Xbox lol. Plus I can use my external HDD to stream movies directly to the PS3 with VLC player. That is pretty cool.

Hmm, well I tested it further. On attempt 1 Tiger Woods froze. On attempt 2 Tiger played ok through a couple holes with no problems. On attempt 3 I made it through a whole game of NBA 2K8 with no problems.

So I will hold off on returning it for now. If the problems crop up again, back it goes.

Excluding the RRoD, the Xbox 360 has made a name for American game consoles and has more games than both systems.

Yeah... but you wouldn't be saying that after two consoles died on you in a little over a year.

Yep, just yesterday my Elite that I got back in July RRoDed. Sometimes I can get it to boot to the dash, but within seconds of playing a game it'll crash/freeze. And to top it off, when I was removing the GPUs clamp I broke a solder point. I was frustrated and was careless.

MS really let us down in the hardware department. I wish some games I give a $#!+ about were on the PS3, cause I would just get that.

So, I'll likely just get a core and put it in my Elite case. (The white would be an eye sore with my setup.)

Amazingly my Xbox 1.0 I got way back in 2001 still works perfectly.

On another note - Holy crap this site has come a long way! Super props.

My Xbox 1 is on anywhere from 8-10 hours a day and never overheats or freezes. I've had it almost 3 years with virtually 0 technical problems.

Not sure what I'm gonna do if the 360 is dead for sure this time. I have put a lot of time and money into the 360 with accessories and games, so it would be tough to just exchange it for a PS3 and start back at square one. I'll have to think about it and not make a decision when I'm pissed.

I totally agree, MS screwed the pooch with the 360. My cousin's husband is a professional IT guy and official MS Business Partner. He said at a MS business conference awhile back that vendors were complaining about return rates as high as 75% on the 360. He said Microsoft basically told them to suck it up, we made our money. With that attitude, it's easy to see why so many stores no longer honor the warranty on the 360. Microsoft has done a disservice to stores and consumers alike for not using better quality parts in the 360. It makes no sense seeing how the Xbox 1 is extremely reliable.

75% - That's outrageous.

And that's exactly what the problem is, just flat out bad quality hardware. Like I understand that the hardware isn't cheap, and selling for $300-$400 must hurt, but I don't see the PS3 having these problems.

I'm so mad I don't want to buy another one, but for the games I want I have no alternative.

Need a 360 emulator for the PC. I'll get right on that.
