My Awkward RRoD 360 Fix Story

Hello, this weekend me and my older brother took a day to try and fix my modded RRoD 360. My 360 has the error code 0102, so we tried examining the 360's motherboard, (he did mostly), and he forgot to bring the heat shroud that came with the 360.

So, I recommended that we use the penny fix, but instead we used RAM heat sinks instead of pennies, we glued them on the 4 RAM chips, and put the 360 back together to the point where it could be turned on. It turned on with the RRoD, but then it overheated. So what my brother did was, created a heat shroud using cardboard.

The 360 was inconsistently working after that was done, and it didn't overheat. I popped in a DVD DL Gears of War backup and played for 2 hours without it overheating. But when I turned it on and off, it got the ring again, with the same 0102 error.

So we kept turning it on and off, until the RRoD went away, it worked once but then the screen froze, then it turned off. So we put the case back on the 360, then we realized that the man made cardboard fan shroud we made was designed to take in air from the front of the console, and with the case put on, that could not be done, so we turned it off before it started to overheat, and he also re-designed the heat shroud so the case could be put on.

We tried putting a HDD in the 360 so we could play Gears of War together, but when it was put in we got the RRoD. So, for the rest of the day, I was able to turn on the Xbox 360 8 or 9 times, and get a RRoD, and on the 10th time, it would boot up normally. This is completely bothersome, and we still cannot come to solid conclusion on what is wrong with the 360 exactly, and when I got home with the Xbox, it kept getting the ring, I'm guessing it's because we took the RAM heat sinks off of the four RAM chips near the two X Clamps. So the penny fix does actually work, we just need a proper heat shroud.

If you are going to do all that just attempt an X-clamp fix or the heatgun method. Both are proven fixes for the RRoD and the most common fixes for error 102. There's no point in attempting things that may or may not work, best to go with proven methods imo.
