I am new to this modding experience so I was wondering exactly what does a modded 360 actually do? Before I buy drives online and actually learn a new technique in something I'd like to know will it be worth my time. So how does it affect the game play? What are the possibilities?

First thing is, a modded Xbox 360 will play burned 360 games, as long as the games are backed up correctly on Dual Layer DVD+R media. That is the main feature.
If you are just getting an Xbox 360, you will almost certainly end up with a Hitachi 0079 or a Liteon drive. The Hitachi can be flashed completely via software. There is no hacked firmware for Liteon drives right now. c4e is working on it, and it should happen sometime in the near future. The first thing to do is figure out what model DVD-ROM drive you have: ![]() This is what the Liteon's look like: ![]() Once you know which DVD-ROM drive you have, read Textbook's flashing tutorial, it contains all you need to know: Robin Hoods Playground • View topic - Textbooks Hacking the 360 for noobs 2008 Supplement it with this and you are good to go: Xbox 360 Quick Links

Keep in mind that the only thing you can do with a lite-on drive, if you have one, is dump the key and then buy a samsung or benq and spoof it to replace the lite-on. You can't actually flash the lite-ons straight out like you can the other drives. Well, yet anyway.

My son got a XBOX 360 PRO 20GB a few weeks ago and it had a BENQ.
The 60GB probably has the lite-on. |

The arcade is tempting at $200. I have an old MS-28 that could be spoofed as a Litey, if Maximus Firmware Toolbox supports spoofing as a Liteon.
