Hi Guy's and gal (respect the pixelina)
I want to ask a few querie's I wonder if anyone in the forum's has actually used the XBOXHDM to unlock/relock/build an xbox drive, i have been trying to get this sorted and come up with a few error's, i did download the XBOXHDM, and stored it to desktop and extracted the file, and remember i have my xbox eeprom upon my main pc, which i did burn to a cd-rw like the tut asked, also there was a boot disk option for floppy, and as my mobo on my pc in my game's room is quite old, in the main bios, it only has the option of ide/floppy, although i did download the win 98 boot disk to floppy so that i could gain cd-rom control, and i set up the floppy and inserted that into the floppy drive in the computer, and the cd-rom has the burned ISO in, and the xbox hard drive is set to master, and the cd-rom is set to slave as per the tut, i start up the machine, and before the post test, i press F8 to get to boot option's and then press scroll down to cd-rom, and it boot's the ISO, and this begin's to take me into linux, and i have followed the tut as best as i can, but i get so far, and it comes up with some option's, option 1 a - automatically get password from eeprom option 2 p - type in password on command line ? option 3 - f get password only from file only containing password I have input all three of the option's and get nothing and have to rebott, to see if i can jolt something in memory, but nothing , also i have tried to boot with the floppy, and get the freedos window up on the screen and instantly type in dir, and i am going to hdunlock, and then hitting enter and it is coming up with password file not found ! aborting. Below is a bit of the info within the package ?? i do also have more info on the tut, but it is a tad long, seven sheet's to be exact ? The wording in the chunky text below is xbox HD Maker and recovery tool _ __ __ _ __ __ ______ __ ___ __ | |/ // /_ ____ | |/ / / / / / __ \ / |/ /___ _/ /_____ _____ | // __ \/ __ \| / / /_/ / / / / / /|_/ / __ `/ //_/ _ \/ ___/ / |/ /_/ / /_/ / | / __ / /_/ / / / / / /_/ / ,< / __/ / /_/|_/_.___/\____/_/|_| /_/ /_/_____/ /_/ /_/\__,_/_/|_|\___/_/ __ ____ _____ ____/ / / __ `/ __ \/ __ / / /_/ / / / / /_/ / \__,_/_/ /_/\__,_/ __ __ ________ _________ _ _____ _______ __ / /_____ ____ / / / ___/ _ \/ ___/ __ \ | / / _ \/ ___/ / / / / __/ __ \/ __ \/ / / / / __/ /__/ /_/ / |/ / __/ / / /_/ / / /_/ /_/ / /_/ / / /_/ \___/\___/\____/|___/\___/_/ \__, / \__/\____/\____/_/ /____/ This explains howto build a burnable iso from this distribution. For information on howto use the xbox HD builder script read the readme.txt in the linux directory. The xbox HD builder script (xboxhd) needs the xbox C-, and E-drive files. You can supply the script with these files in two ways : You can either : - burn a seperate CDROM with two folders containing the xbox C-, and E-drive respectively, or - Put the xbox C- and E-drive files in the C and E folders in linux directory before making the burnable iso. BUILDING THE ISO. In windows upon a 'Command prompt' and navigate to this directory. Run the following command : > make-iso-win.bat In linux navigate to this directory and execute : > make-iso-lin.sh This should produce a file called linux.iso that you must now burn to blank CDROM. It's important that you burn this raw image and don't create a Data CDROM containing this image... UNLOCK/LOCK TOOLS. If you need to lock or unlock xbox HD's use also have two options : 1) Boot the CDROM an choose option 3) at the boot prompt. This will bring you to a linux prompt with locking/unlocking tools. These tools are generating the HDD password automatically and it's therefore required that you supply the eeprom of the xbox that the HDD is from. You can include the eeprom in the xboxhmd/linux/eeprom directory (named eeprom.bin) or have it ready on a floppy disk. type : unlockhd to run the unlock utility. type : lockhd to run the locking utility. The eeprom supplied password will be set and a Master Password 'XBOXSCENE'. You can use this to unlock the HDD if you loose the eeprom password you your eeprom gets lost. Boot the xboxhdm to DOS (option 4) and run the atapwd tools to unlock using Master passwords. 2) Boot the CDROM an choose option 4) at the boot prompt. This will bring you to a DOS prompt with the unlockx, hdlock, hdunlock, hddisabl utilities. However as the CDROM is read-only on log files can be saved so you will be prompted the used passwd when a HD is locked. Write this down in case the passwd later turns out to be incorrect. You can also insert a fat-formatted floppy and run the save-logs command to save the used passwd's onto floppy 3) Boot the xboxhdm CD using option 1). Enter the xboxhd tool by typing xboxhd and pushing ENTER. Choose the "Generate HDD password" option and afterwards run the "Make DOS floppy with locking tools" option. Reboot using this floppy and use the unlockhd and lockhd tools. Good luck - and remember to read the readme.txt before using this tool! ldots.

Yes. I use xboxhdm almost on a daily basis. But I don't use the boot disk option. I boot from the cdrom and use the locking/unlocking tools that way. When you built your linux, iso file, you did put a copy of the eeprom.bin file in the eeprom folder right? Also, the drive that you are booting the CD from, is that a regular cd or DVD drive, or is it a DVD burner? I have heard of people having trouble with certain things while using xboxhdm with a dvd burner.
As far as the boot disk goes, check to see if the eeprom.bin file is on the disk. You should be able to read the disk in windows since it is a freedos disk, you might even be able to put the eeprom.bin file on it if you don't find it, but I'm not sure where to put it on the floppy.

Hi Sadalius
i ahve read your reply and the actual drive, that i am trying to read the iso from is actually a dvd writer, model NEC ND-11-00 A are you meaning that this in itself, could also be creating a problem, i am getting quite frustrated with all this, i would love to know/understand so much of this as you do, but i fear i do not, and yes i did as you asked and ensured that i put my eeprom in the right area??? i do not have a cheapo cd rom to help me out either, unless i take it out of my main pc, and i do not want to meddle with that anymore, i almost lost a drive through trying that already?? nobody's fault but my own, so i am not sulking/complaining ha ha ! Another point to mention is that when i try to boot from the freedos floppy, i type dir, and it come's with all teh files in the directory, i access atapwd, this takes me to the ata tool's page, where i have two option's, 1 PM ST10014a revision 3.0.9, serial no 5jrgjq8c, s+ e+ l+ x- v- m, SS -NEC dvd r+w ND-11-00 A, revision 1.a.3 I press enter on teh Xbox hard drive option and go into security command set, iand i press unlock with mater password, and the password i type in is xboxscene, and then i hit enter, and it show's ERROR coommand rejected by drive WTF I have to then reboot ?? I hope this help's Sadalius :-D

If your dealing with the original hdd that came out of your xbox, the drive hasn't been unlocked or locked by any other means then the Microsoft method, which doesn't leave the master set to xboxscene. To be able to do that, you would have to first unlock the drive. Try this: goto http://team-assembly.com/downloads and download the LiveInfo_Beta_2.rar file and extract it with winrar. Run LiveInfo.exe and then click load EEPROM button at the bottom, then navigate to your eeprom.bin file and open it. Once you load your eeprom, the line that reads Unique HDD key will be the key that you need to unlock your hdd. Don't go by the line that says calculated password, it will be wrong as it will be calculating that information based off the hdd thats installed in your pc.
Now, if xboxhdm appears to be locking up when you see "link down", it isn't really locking up. It's just trying to configure network settings and because it doesn't see a network cable plugged in, it has to turn the network off and takes longer. I have seen it take as much as 5 minutes to boot when there is no ethernet cable plugged into the computer with an internet source. So you could either plug in an ethernet cable, or just wait for it to turn down it's network and continue booting and use the unlockhd -a or lockhd -a commands. I really hope you get this sorted soon, it makes me feel bad that you've been without your xbox for this long.

Hi Sadalius
I thank you for your reply, firstly I did as you asked and downloaded the file, info Beta 2 and extracted it with Winrar, and placed ont he desktop, I then opened the liveinfo 2 and as you requested, i clicked on load eeprom, i then navigated to where i stored this on my pc ( eeprom.bin 1 kb), and this brought new information into the liveinfo beta2 window, and i took down the unique hdd key: 00000000000000000000000000000000, i noted this down, and went to my other pc in the next room, where I am trying to unlock the original Xbox H.D.D, i boot up the system and i press F8 immediately to get into boot option's and from there i picking options 3 boot linux with locking/unlocking utilitie's, it is going through the command's and because i have added a cable i see that the link is up, 100 mbps cable, but then i cannot seem to get any further, i have been into the atapwd, and tried to unl;ock the Xbox H.D.D by taking the option to unlock the drive using the master password, and adding the unique hdd 00000000000000000000000000000000. bit it come's up with an error stating the drive rejected the commans???? Sorry if i am causing any probs for you Sadalius

that presents a problem in and of itself. The HDD key should never be all 0's. This indicates a bad dump of the eeprom file. Which is why the drive is rejecting the commands. What this means is this is going to make recovering quite a bit more complicated. Of course the easiest remedy would be to chip the xbox. But you have indicated that you don't want to do that. If you could get xboxhdm booting properly, I would suggest hotswapping. But that doesn't seem to be going very well either. I'm afraid I'm going to have to think about your situation some to see what I can come up with. And of course if anyone else has any ideas, please, feel free to jump in.

Well what to do? I'd suggest looking through your xbox files to see if you have another copy of the eeprom, with any luck you may have an intact copy somewhere? on the PC.
what I really mean is if that copy of your eeprom is fubar there could be a 100% intact copy somewhere else. That's why some files tend to stack up on an xboxers PC. It's safer to have all that junk and important stuff and not to delete or dust it off for these reasons! Then again it's good to have backups on disc too! I actually had an xbox at my place that somebody messed with after I modded it for them. Error 16 whaddya know. That pretty much says no executable default to me, no MS dash either. Do you have an original Game, AUF,MA,SC? Does it boot up? If so you're in luck. If not then...... If you have orig. game and it boots, you can save you're Xbox.@ Saddalius..... If not you could really be out of luck bro' you might seriously consider a chip for that xbox and say haleighlugea or something like that! Because if you cannot find an intact copy of your eeprom which your xbox requires I believe the next step is, to get a chip put it in the xbox and set that chunk of metal(HD) back in the box and get ready for some more lessons from Bill and Co. Without an intact copy of your eeprom..................Is almost the worst that can happen. Don't panic though! Like i said a or the chip can really save you're a** !
