bought a system link cable for xbox to ftp directly...wont connect...need help

I use a wireless router and my isp keeps losing connection here and there so I decided to go with a direct connection instead of connecting to the router. I set up a static Ip on the laptop and on the xbox but I cant connect. I need help

When you say system link cable, do you mean a crossover cable? You need a crossover cable to connect a Xbox to the PC directly.

This is a CAT-5 Crossover Cable:

Quick Guide to FTP your Xbox with a CAT5 Cable (Direct Connection)

1. Connect your Xbox to your PC with a CAT5 cable. It runs from an Ethernet port on your PC to the Ethernet Port on your Xbox

2. Set up Static IP on your PC.
Select your OS: http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm

3. Boot into your default dash. Go into your network settings and set up a static IP on your Xbox with this guide: reinstall windows xp
Input the appropriate settings where necessary. Save your settings.

4. Reboot your Xbox

5. Download FlashFXP http://www.xtreme-source.com/downloa...d=121&act=down

6. Install FlashFXP. Open FlashFXP. Hit F8 to bring up QuickConnect menu. Input your Xbox IP in the server or url field. Input your username and password into the appropriate fields. The default username and password is xbox all lowercase. Click Connect. If everything is correct, you should see your Xbox in your FTP browser.

I'm not positive if it's the same thing, I know you need a crossover cable to connect an Xbox to your PC. Does it look similar to the pic I posted?

I think it's similar but I'm going to go switch it out today ang get a plain jane crossover cable. Now once I have it I'm going to try to set up a static Ip on my laptop again. Would my inability to connect have anything to do with my setting a static IP on a wireless connection?

if your using the cable, you wouldn't want to change your wireless settings, but rather the settings for the LAN connection.
