There are alot of options really, the first of which is how do you want to mod your xbox [if it isn't already]...then from there you will choose a dashboard. After that it's just bells and whistles.

The backing up of the games is easy after that really...we have some softmod gurus on this site...one of which is not me. I don't do softmods,so I wouldn't be the dood to ask about that.

There are also some decent members that can guide you through the chip process too. Best thing to do is check through the forums here and see who might know what you think you need to know, then maybe PM them with some questions. They should be able to stear you in the right direction.

Yeah if you're deciding between a modchip and a softmod, go with a modchip! Softmods are goofy for lack of a better word. If the softmod files are moved, deleted, installed in the wrong partition/directory, you're getting errors. A modchip is a lot more stable and easy to use. The Xecutioner 3 and Xenium Gold are the best chips out for the Xbox. Please provide some more info, and as far as softmods, I have no idea, same as Punq.

agree with above. Go with a modchip. I have a cheaper one called a
DuoX2 and it works great.
After that you can upgrade the hard drive in it so you can store all your games on it and play them from there. Then if discs are stolen you have them and can back them up onto another disc.
I suggest a 250-300GB hard drive

I would not go so far as to say backing them up onto another disc is easy for a beginner. To the hard drive with a modchip, yes. but not to another disc. For that you need to learn to set up and use an FTP connection between the PC and Xbox which can be easy for some and a bit harder for others. Once you get that done then i would say yes, that backing up games is easy.

With a mod chip the easiest way to do the Xbox is to use an auto installer like Slayer 2.6 or AID 3.0 (auto installer deluxe)
That will put pretty much all the apps and stuff on your Xbox for you that you will need. Including the 3 most used dashboards
EvoX, UnleshX, and Avalaunch.
I like EvoX for it's ease of use. UnleashX for it great features that EvoX lacks like a great file browser and game save manager. And Avalaunch i just do not use much as the other 2 take care of everything i have needed.

And a trusted place in the US to get it all done would be at the sister site to XS Team Modders - One step above the rest
and they will also soon be selling the chips.

although long winded that is just the tip of the iceburg as far as modded Xbox's. Once you have one and find out all the great stuff you can do you will be amazed that microsoft did not include all that when they built it.

Hello hatemaker

PLZ PLZ PLZ i shall say this once and once only, choose the ioption's the guy's here have nmentioned, i did try a softmod myself before, because i was eager, and i had problem's and it ended up costing me a lot more, than it would have done to just have the modchip done in the first instance?? THINK carefully, and then use the SEARCH function on the page, get the relevant info, and pm one of the guy's depending ion the help you require, last but not least good luck :-D
ps welcome

I am a softmod person all the way. If you backup your C: and E: folders plus Eeprom after a softmod then there should be no problem to get up and running if you do mess up the softmod in some way.

I have softmodded allot of Xboxs for friends and family and never have had a problem recovering the system if they mess it up. Of course I do a backup of the C: and E: folder and Eeprom and burn those to disc and give them the copy so they have it if they happen to mess there system up.

1 plus that I have found with a softmodded system (NKPATCHER 10 and above) is you can play ISO images from your Xbox HDD. Some games will only work off DISC in this case you can set up the softmod to play the ISO file as a virtual drive tricking the Xbox into thinking it is playing from the DVD drive.

Last time I knew chiped Xboxs could not do this. I could be wrong tho. In any case you really need to do some research on both ways (Softmod & Hardmod) and learn as much as you can before jumping into it.

Yeah you and Sadalius seem to have a bead on softmods, but in general, I see a lot more problems with softmodded Xbox's, with novice users not installing the hacked bios correctly and getting boot errors. A softmod in the wrong hands is very dangerous, to a degree the same is true for a modchip, but as long as the user doesn't delete key system files and stays away from format stuff, there's no probs. Not to mention changing your default dash, locking/unlocking HD's, and swapping out HD's is much easier with a modchip than a softmod. There's only been two games I couldn't get to work off the HD, NBA Live 06 and 07, something EA does to the game keeps it from working off the HD, that's it out of 100+ games.
