XBMC HD Upscale query

Okay, well for my next purchase, I'm considering a 19 LCD HDTV, which supports 720p, no 1080 i/p. I have read a bit, and XBMC is supposed to be able to upscale to 720p with no performance hit. So does anyone have any personal experience with upscaling XBMC to HD? How's the quality and performance?

Tried it and the output of it upscaling is not working on my end. Watching Naruto which is basically 720p encoded, on a 1080p TV and it basically plays as a 720p resolution. I re-encoded some naruto episodes to 480i and watched on my 22" which is 720p, and no change there either. Im not really sure what configs is needed to be done to upscale these video.

Well it's not auto, you need to adjust in settings-->system-->Video hardware enable 720p/1080i
