Have you ever used it as a video player? It plays videos in every format I've ever come across except for dv-avi, not to mention every audio format I've across, except for real media, dunno about midis. So the short rundown for videos is mkv, mpeg 1/2/4, mov, rm or rmvb, ogm, XviD/DivX, wmv, flv, and whatever else there is. It'll also play the variations of these codecs i.e. there's a zillion variations of avi codecs.
For audio files it'll play flac, ogg, wav, mp3, LAME, wma, and just about everything else. There is not a single PC media player which can match the native video support XBMC offers. Not to mention it can upscale stuff to HD, also supports a ton of image formats, supports videos/music/pictures over a networked PC, the Xbox HD, or off disc, and the DVD player isn't bad. It's also updated every couple weeks, offers a ton of features and customization, webscripts, can be used to browse the web with linksboks, and a myriad of options with the python scripts. You can watch stuff off youtube, listen to netradio, get movie trailers off quicktime, the list is endless. Best of all it is free, open-source, and allows you the luxury of watching video files on your TV.
Frankly, there is nothing better. It's the best media player of all time, the best homebrew of all time, and the reason a modded Xbox is still the best thing going. I couldn't live without XBMC, I've come to depend on it that much. I would probably part with my 360 before I'd part with my Xbox 1. In terms of use, XBMC beats my 360 by about 20:1 ratio.
