what methods have you tried. No use writing out methods that already failed.

Most people FTP their EEPROM file to the PC and use Xboxhdm and their PC to build it, and then just swap it out with the stock one. There are also other ways if you have access to a chipped system.

I linked him to a guide which proposes just that. For the life of me, I thought you could use a modded Xbox to format it, transfer softmod files and lock it, I didn't realize that the HD is married to the mobo in a locked state, otherwise you get Error 5 in a softmodded Xbox.

CHIMP2.4 maybe newer out there now, but if you can find the instructions this is the prog which you can use to format, transfer and possibly lock from xbox alone. Need y power cable and some savvy cable pulling skills and you're good all the way to terabyte heaven! Sup Guy's!

Well from the guides, it looks like the chipped system is primarily for backing up the eeprom PSP, I dunno how to go about it with only a chipped Xbox. I think that chimped program is on Slayer's Installer, so if you can figure out how to use it, that may work.

to be honest the site i knew that had a guide is no longer around so you may have to search. If i remember correctly it had to do with sticking the drive in the chipped system and using slayer to format and set it up. But there is more to it because of the EEPROM file being locked to each system and when you use slayer it would take on the EEPROM of the chipped system and not work in the other until you were able to switch the EEPROM to that of the un-chipped system. You may find it on Xbox-Scene so look aroun. Just don't post about it because they are quick to ban people, like me, if you post anything about modding. here are some more things to read. Really getting a chip in would make it so much easier. You just slap in a new HDD and use slayer and your done.

See I'd think you need to install the softmod on the non-chipped system, use EvoX or Config magic to make an eeprom backup on the soft-modded system, then FTP the eeprom back up to the PC. Then format the HD to go in the softmodded Xbox, reinstall the softmod on HD to go in softmodded Xbox, and use the eeprom backup from earlier to lock it with XBHDM. Then install the locked, softmodded HDD upgrade back into the softmod box. That may not be right, but that's how I see the process in my head.
