Ok, so I'm buying a modded Xbox from my friend, with an X-Changer V2.5 in it. It also has linux on it, and all that good stuff. Now, what I'm wondering, is can I get on Xbox Live for free with it somehow? Or would I have to set up a virtual lan?

What do you mean xbox live is up for the normal xbox?

I thought MS shut it down for the normal xbox. But if its still up, and you pop that xbox onto the network of live, it will get banned. Also there is no free way to get on live.

Lol! And there is a way I believe... Using something called Xlink Kai Evolution VII... Supposedly can be used to get on for free. But I believe it's only on their servers. Not sure, goin through their stuff. But I'm gonna try it when I get the xbox in a couple weeks.

Xlink and Xbox-connect are alternate way (Non MS), but when ever I go on it, its slow and I cant find anyone playing my type of game.

I just hate that people dont use PVPGN alot, and they is always alot of cheaters on it.

Stealth mode in this case means the ability to disable the modchip and play original games on Xbox Live without the modchip being detected and your Xbox subsequently banned. With the modchip disabled, you won't be able to run any backup games, hacked dashes, emulators, etc. There is no way to play on XBL for free that I know of. A decent amount of people use X-Link Kai, though not nearly as many as XBL. For popular games like Halo 2, there should be people online for Kai. As far as I understand, there are separate rooms for people using cheats and legit players on Kai. As Kam mentioned, X-Link Kai and XB Connect have no affiliation with Microsoft, they are independent, free online alternatives for Xbox owners.

Thats cool and all. I don't mind playing on kai link, and if I wanted to play friends from online I could do a virtual lan right? like someone was talkin about in windows xp section the other day. You said you guys used to use it for free lan games across the country if im not mistaken.

I know you can set Kai to friends only games, in other words only people with the nicks you specify can join your game, so yeah you can play LAN cross-country so to speak.

Dunno if you are familiar with Xbox Media Center, but it's the ultimate all-in-one media solution. If you have a nice dedicated sound system, it can be a great music and movie player. It plays videos, images, and pictures in all formats from the Xbox HD, a networked PC, the internet, or off disc. 90% of people I know with a modded Xbox use it exclusively for XBMC. It also has the ability to upscale standard definition video files to HD. It will upscale to 720p and 1080i in good quality. The upscaling capabilities require component cables for the Xbox 1. They can be found for pretty cheap on eBay. I actually payed a bit more for the official MS Component cables, the quality is far superior to the knock-off third party cables. The generic component cables can be had for under $10. It can also output emulators in HD, so you can play all your favorite SNES, NES, MAME, Genesis roms in HD.
