Gimme some credit Kam. :P

I would never advise someone to pull out their HD on a softmodded Xbox. You need to use the eeprom backup from the stock HD to lock the new HD through XBHDM when upgrading the HD on a softmod box. Otherwise you will get boot errors which are potentially unrecoverable without a modchip.

It should be simple with a modchip, I don't think you need to do anything other than install the drive and use Slayer's to get it up and running. Or you could simply transfer the contents of the stock HD's C and E drives to the new HD and install it. With my chip any way, the eeprom backup is right on the chip, I don't need to do anything other than install the new HD, format, and lock it. I have a Xenium Ice in mine. It appears with your chip you don't have to do anything except install the new HD, format it through Slayer's and either install the stuff you want manually or transfer over the contents of the C and E drive from the stock HD.

The easiest way to check it the HD is SATA or IDE is to check the connectors. This is IDE:

This is SATA:

Well first you need the proper torx drivers to dissemble your Xbox. Then you need to dissemble and install the new HD. Here are some guides with step-by-step information and pictures:

How do I take apart my Xbox - Powered By Kayako SupportSuite

http://dwl.xbox-scene.com/%7Exbox/xb...bly_Manual.pdf

The second is a pdf file, which more or less tells you exactly how to remove the stock HD and install the new one. Just follow up to the part where it shows how to remove the stock HD and go in the reverse order to install the new one. Once that's done, reassemble your Xbox and pop in a copy of Slayer's EvoX Installer. Torrent sites are the like are the best places to find a copy of Slayer's. Boot into Slayer's and go through the steps to format a large HDD. There used to be a pdf file with full instructions on how to use Slayer's. Most torrents you find should include the instructions as a pdf file. Slayer's will come as a rar file, decompress the rar files and burn the Slayer's iso to disc with ImgBurn or your favorite burning software. Then pop the burned disc in your Xbox and go through the formatting steps for a large HDD. Once you are done formatting, you can install the dash of your choice onto your C partition (typically where your bios boot from). Or you can install the files from the C and E drive of your stock HD to the new HD via FTP. That will preserve the same apps, files, and dash setup you have on the stock HD.

Well I do work in a auto repair shop, so the torx aren't a problem, and it's already dissasembled lol. I'm also trying to rewire the 3rd and 4th controller ports and make them usb ports =D

Ok uhm... I got evox burned as an iso on a disc... And it won't boot from it. I still get the customer support screen...

It might help to know that the xbox im testing this on is not modded at all.

Soft or hard.

I don't know if that will stop me from putting a new hdd in it. ?

Yeah man, a burned disc will not boot on a non-modded Xbox, that's definitely the problem. I thought you said you were upgrading the HD on a modded box.

Ah ok. Yeah it should be a breeze once you get around to doing it. At least now you have experience with the most "difficult" part, so it should be a snap when you go to install the 30GB HD.

Yea lol. I've taken the xbox apart before to install a new cd drive, and to clean it out. =) So that part wasnt to bad.

Something else I'm working on with it, is since the xbox is usb compatible if you wire a controller chord and a usb chord together, I'm replacing the 4th controlle port with a usb port =D Since I have linux and all, and I can ftp. I'm gonna be able to plug my flash drive in and move files back and forth and such =D

And if I need a 4th controller plugged in, I can just wire one to a usb plug and use it that way =D
