Hard Drive?

Ok, so... The XBOX I have is "modded" yes, but it still has the regular 8gb hdd in it. Now, I have a spare 30gb hard drive here, and was wondering if I could format it with the XBOX OS or something to make it work with the XBOX. I tried hooking it up already, but I just get a "Contact Customer Support" screen when I power on.

Please and thank you.

You either have to get a modchip or hot swap the drive.... On a side note, we no longer support modding due to recent activities.

The first thing you should do is create an eeprom backup of your stock Xbox HD. Then transfer all the files from the C and E partitions on your stock Xbox HD to your PC via FTP. Then install new HDD in the Xbox. Download Slayer's EvoX Installer. It is an Xbox Box auto installer that contains apps, emulators, and tools for the Xbox. Format the New HDD with Slayer's EvoX Installer for a large HDD. Then restore eeprom backup, transfer over C and E partition backups from your PC to the new HDD via FTP. Reboot, and you should be in the hacked dash.

As far as the eeprom backups, I'm not 100% sure that applies to modchipped Xboxes, some chips allow eeprom backups directly to the chip, so you can simply pop in a new HDD, format it, and transfer over the old C and E partitions or install a new dash and apps from scratch. The part about transferring over the C and E partitions from the original HDD is optional. Doing it that way, the new Xbox HDD will contain the identical settings, apps, and setup as the old HDD. If you prefer to install a new dash and start from scratch, then that step is not necessary.

30GB's will fill up fast, I'd recommend putting at least 120GB HD in there. I have a 320GB Western Digital HD in mine. It would've filled up a long time ago if I didn't back a lot of stuff up to DVD. I usually keep about 100GB's free. The Xbox only works with IDE HD's, so make sure the drive laying around isn't SATA or anything.

Sorry to burst any bubbles. But once he takes out his "original" hdd, the Xbox will frag. And he cant load Slayer, cause its not a hard modded xbox (ie: TSOP, Modchip) so..yeah xD

Lol, it's fine. I actually have 3. One that doesn't work because the hdd went bad. My second is a Special Edition Halo Xbox, from the first halo game, it's see thru green, with the original halo controller and game =D. And my 3rd I don't technicaly have yet, because my friend has it, but it will be here soon.

My Halo xbox I don't use, it's still in the box. I figure one day it might be worth something =p My new ones gonna be the one I use =D
