WiFi on Xbox

I want to use my Xbox upstairs in my bedroom to stream videos/music from the PC downstairs wirelessly.

I called gamestop to see if they had any wireless adapters for the Xbox and they said they had a new 1 for $80.

Is there any other way to connect the Xbox for wireless connection other then using the adapter that might be cheaper?

Not really, cause game wifi adapters are usually that price, low end is about $60. Its just a device the hooks up to the ethernet port of the Xbox and have a wifi receiver.

Heres a decent one, D-Link DWL-G820 108Mbps 802.11g Wireless GamingEthernet Bridge at TigerDirect.com

And that still requires a wireless gateway or router, so that just compounds the cost. The one for 360 is $100, a total ripoff. I have a wireless gateway and would never pay that, plus I don't want to get banned from Live with my pre-iXtreme firmware.

I know its a bit different from what you're asking but I used hard lines throughout my home network and its all very well hidden. If you know how to create your own LAN cable (cutting and clamping the Ethernet wire) or know a company that can do it for a decent price you're in business. I just bought a couple rolls for about $35 from Costco close to 300 meters each and made my own cables. I do have 2 locations that are far from the source, downstairs and the main bedroom. I suggest wired networks, especially for streaming video, because its better streaming quality and its 'not' wireless (just not really a fan). I have a pretty strong home wireless connection but there are times where I streamed music and some video just to test things and I'm not too impressed with jitters or lags that sometimes occur. For example, automatic extraction of an archive to be streamed or justing starting the stream takes a little longer and overall response just isn't that prompt. I use wireless for my PSP and laptop, but even the laptop is "sometimes" depending on what I'm doing at the time. If you can do LAN vs wireless through your home network, I strongly recommend it for each device you have. Two reasons: security and performance. My setup is something like this.

Well thanks all for the advice.

@ Tech
I would rather it be hard wried as well but I live in an apartment complex and can not alter the property to much and this would need to be done to actually hard wire the connection upstairs.

As of the other suggestions it seems thats the way to go. I already have a wireless D-Link router so I will probably try to find a network adapter that is used or maybe cheaper off Ebay etc. etc.

Well, one of mine is upstairs/downstairs. Of course I'm not sure of your layout and I can only alter so much where I live as well. I basically ran the cable along the baseboard to where I needed it, cut it, and tucked the rest under the carpet. Nothing is visible, nothing altered. I realize your layout is different but there has got to be a way around it. Have you tried flat LAN cables? One of those came with my server casing. The come in all lengths and even colors. If you had to run something along a wall, maybe it would match, or not be visible since the cable is flat with exception to the connectors at the ends.

The Internet hookup is in the dining area which is between the Kitchen and Front Room.

I would have to run the cable across a walk way then bring it up the stairs and across another walk way that goes to the bathroom since that is at the end of the hall and the bedroom is on the opposite side of the hall. There is no carpet in the dining room/kitchen area so hiding it under the carpet will not work.
