An easy fix? - XTREME-SOURCE

Hey, i'm here. Thinking of purchasing a faulty/broken/damaged xbox off ebay for a maximum price of $30AUD. Doing that, once I recieve it I will try fixing it. I am looking at some xbox's that have sticking doors (cd drives). I was thinking simply taking the case off and inspecting and fixing it.
If it's a software failure or something I am sure to find something on the internet or upon this website about fixing it.

Just to make sure how well do you think I will go with this? O_o
And if this works with just one I will soft mod it and keep it... and maybe buy more and fix and sell them on ebay as working ones(as they will be).

Another question, anyone have a broken/faulty xbox I could purchase for under $30 price and postage. Preferably the Australian format... PAL it is I believe. not NTSC or something. :P

Well when it comes to consoles, particularly broken ones on eBay, people are frequently not truthful with the extent of the damage. I would recommend just picking up a used, working Xbox second hand. That way you aren't taking any chance on a crappy console that may be inoperable without a motherboard, DVD-ROM drive replacement, or that requires soldering to fix. You should be able to find a second hand Xbox for under $100 USD. You can then get it modded. I did some checking, and Stig apparently you asked about where to mod in Australia and came across a guy, I take it you did not follow that up?

Either way, I would recommend picking up a second hand, working Xbox unless you are positive the seller on eBay is being truthful and you can fix the damage. Replacing the DVD-ROM drive in the Xbox is not difficult. Here's a good guide with pictures:

working xbox go for around £30 on uk ebay, At that price i could not see the point on buying a broken one, hehe my action replay has see to much action :P

It has a usb port in the 4th controller slot by the way, and It has a spare hard drive, so you could mod it to run linux on one, or use it as a back up, or whatever. Let me know if your interested.

Postage for something like an xbox to AUS, is gonna be like $40+. Overall, its not worth it. Just keep looking for local sales.
