Alright, I want to softmod a xbox using xboxhdm. I want to take the dash out of slayers and put it in HDM and simply install the damn thing. Problem is I'm going to need the eeprom to to lock the HDD again. Well, xbox isn't modded in any way so how the **** am I going to get that?

It's 2008, I should be able to stick the HDD into my computer and click the install button! lol

After you install the softmod, you can use either one of the modified dashes or Config magic to get an eeprom backup. The easiest way is to use EvoX or UnleashX to create a backup of the eeprom. After backing up the eeprom, make several copies of it so you don't lose it. To perfrom a HDD upgrade on a softmodded Xbox

You need to:

1. Softmod the stock HDD.

2. Create an eeprom backup with UnleashX or EvoX.

3. Transfer the contents of the C and E drives on the stock HDD to your PC along with the eeprom.bin file.

4. Hook up the HDD you wish to install to your PC and boot into XBHDM.

5. Format the new HDD with XBHDM and lock it with the eeprom backup.

6. Then transfer the contents of the C and E drives from the stock HDD you backed up on your PC to the C and E drives of the HDD upgrade.

My advice is if you have any soldering skills, can work with a no-solder adaptor, and can afford a modchip is to simply install a modchip. They are a lot less of a headache than a softmod. Any boot errors are easily remedied with a modchip. The Xecuter 3, Xenium Gold, and SmartXX are very good chips for the Xbox 1. With a softmod it's possible to get boot errors which are only recoverable with the aid of a modchip.

It's not my xbox, there's a guy in my building that knows I'm good with computers and stuff, and knows I have a modded xbox. He literally knocked on my door, and dumped the thing off on me. He says, "I'll pay you for it", so I'm like,.. uhh, ok then, then he said $10 or $20... I was like,... sigh. *facepalm*

Anyway, what you're saying is that I don't technically don't need to worry about the eeprom right off the bat? I can install the dash/mod and just leave it at that? Without re-locking the HDD? The eeprom is just a failsafe?

I think that's the most question marks I've ever had in a post before.

Yeah you only need to worry about the eeprom if he wants you to upgrade from the stock HDD. The softmod will function as is after install. I would definitely make an eeprom backup of his stock HDD after the softmod is installed, at some point he will likely want you to upgrade the stock HDD. So make a backup of the eeprom with EvoX or UnleashX and FTP it to your PC so you have it in case he wants you to upgrade to a bigger HDD at a later date.

Well I just got around to modding the xbox. XboxHDM is useless to me without the eeprom. To make any changes I need to unlock the HDD, to unlock the HDD I need the eeprom, and I don't know how to acquire the eeprom on a stock xbox.

*slits wrist*

You don't, you either put the HDD from the stock Xbox in a mod chipped Xbox and get an eeprom backup that way or softmod the stock HDD and get an eeprom backup through UnleashX or EvoX. It's not possible to get an eeprom backup from the Xbox HDD without modding the Xbox first.
