How do I rip an .avi to create an avatar? I have no Idea what programs to use so a good tut would be appreciated!

So I used image grabber and to the left is my finished product. What do i need to do to get the frame files play?

I was really tired last night and I guess I got confused. I quickly glanced over all the links and like a bonehead, I thought image grabber was an option. I'll give it another shot later today.
