Hahaha, I voted the Nokia N95. It is a nice phone, but with my bad habits of buying things when they come out, its not a solid answer. I did bought it when it came out, and well. It does have freezing issues. And the fact that there is 6 version of the phone, makes other people unhappy for being ripped off. N95-1, N95-2, N95-3, N95-4, N95-5, N95-6.

It is a good phone, good competitor against the iPhone, which lacks some other highend functions. *cough* 2MP camera

I dont use my N95 anymore, I use the N82, which is like the N95, just compacted into a chocolate bar style. GPS, and all the good stuff. Not touch screen.

Even with all the flaws it has (not fair to call them flaws) but I'll say; even though the iPhone is missing some things consumers expected it to have...it's still the overall best smart phone IMO

The BAD:
*AT&T's plans are just not the greatest (T-Mobile owns that dept.)
*No full use of the 3G capabilities (i.e. video calls - the reason)
*Battery life with 3G enabled - No consumer option for additional battery
*Lack of MMS capabilities (but there are workarounds)
*No landscape screen for typing in text and email (possible via internet browsing)

THE GOOD:
*Quality phone - very responsive to touch (launch phones had some issues/rectified)
*Multi functional and actually good at it (a lot of options/
*Great phone for app and game developers in the PDA/MDA world
*GPS works great (heard that voice function to be available in future firmware)
*Also an iPod/iTouch (all-in-one) + cheaper than both of them individually
*Internet displays actual web pages / no forced mobile version templates
*DOES NOT USE WINDOWS MOBILE (aka Master of O/S Lockups)

Just some things that jump out at me. Apple is not done with improving on this phone (by far) but I think they have released the best smart phone on the market as of right now.

I know that there is one phone I was looking forward to but I'm not so sure about it now, in comparison to the iPhone: Sony Ericsson Xperia X1-http://www.sonyericsson.com/x1/?lc=en&cc=us

I also know (at least heard) that T-Mobile is supposed to be releasing a phone this fall with an open source OS on it. The OS is called Android: Android (mobile device platform - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Definitely, phones are evolving like everything else...but I really can't think of a more complete smart phone than Apple's latest release.

All phones I tried/have freezes at some point. Its unavoidable. And with an open source platform for a phone can be a bit hazzy. People will find ways to alter the IMEI, next thing you know, free calls, altered "clone" phone numbers on different network, the havoc, lol...

I'll throw up my pro and cons too:

iPhone:
- Pro: sleek and slim
- Pro: OpenGL usuable
- Pro: Homebrew runnable
- Pro: Somewhat web 2.0 compatible (Safari).
- Con: Touch typing (fast fingers = mumbo jumbo)
- Con: 2MP Camera, no Video (im all for that, like to capture the moments)
- Con: Email instead of MMS.
- Con: Base on A-GPS, not true GPS. Requires network to work
- Con: No bluetooth stereo **

N95/96:
- Pro: Key layout, half phone, half media
- Pro: Bluetooth stereo **
- Pro: 3.5mm jack for any headset
- Pro: FM Radio (just a plus)
- Pro: 8GB/16GB + 2GB Transflash, on the go media
- Pro: No application to sync music, video
- Pro: 5mp camera with flash, barcode scanner, VGA video recorder, direct youtube upload
- Pro: Dedicated GPS (Can work without network)
- Con: S60 isn't the best OS for Dev
- Con: Low memory (less homebrew)
- Con: Browser is compressed (full support, but bad screen ratio)

** The reason bluetooth stereo is a thing for me. Cause my car is rigged with a bluetooth, lcd dvd player. And with the laws in california, I have sync my phone to the stereo system. Plus I can play music from my phone thru the system, out my car stereo... :P

And the GPS directions is also fed thru the bluetooth stereo into the car stereo, so I dont have to keep looking at the phone. It just talks to me.

The Bluetooth feature and Sync compatibility must depend on what vehicle you have and/or the Sync system used. Pending dealership upgrades to the system may play a part too. I have a Lincoln MKZ and the Sync in that vehicle works with the iPhone. This chart compatibility even shows exactly what it can and can't do in the system:

Text format was an issue, a big issue (IMO) but its really not that bad of a system. That's why I mentioned the negative landscape option outside of the web on the phone. After a while, it gets to know your typing ways, auto complete is fairly accurate (even with slang and abbr.) To be honest, I think I text faster on the iPhone vs other smartphones I've had simply because of the the touch feature vs. button. I think I would prefer button, but its definitely not as big a flaw as I assumed prior to using the phone.

I hope that the rumor is true about the GPS upgrade for the iPhone and voice directions will become a part of the system. The iPhone is the best $200 computer on the market that I can use to make needed phone calls...

gotta go with iphone. mostly cause of apps, there are some flaws but apple can fix it with software update. I'm also not digging the plan. I'm a big fan of sony ericcson so xperia x1 looks amazing. But the price they set for xperia in europe... i don't think it'll have chance fighting iphone with that price.
worst part is that both iphone and xperia is only AT&T. AT&t know how to pick a cool phone.

What is the price supposed to be in Europe. That's the first time I've heard it was gonna be high...Initially, the Xperia was given the nickname (iPhone Killer) all the others that said it are just being copy cats (FYI). The biggest part about it holding that name was the price drop and the word was that was why the iPhone dropped so drastically...it new that X1 was coming. So how much are they talking in Europe?

Ahhh, I see. Well, the talk was $199, we'll see I guess. I would think it would have to be to compete with the iPhone or come close to the title of the "iPhone Killer"

I like how they plan on utilizing the 3G capability fully with video phone calls...nice touch Sony
